The Sanilac Petroglyphs
It was a warm Thursday night and we were at Kingswood Outfield for their bike night with Tom, Cindy, Mike, Linda, Stacey, Bob, Jim and Joey. The weather for the weekend looked beautiful. We were discussing a ride for Saturday and trying to decide where we should go. My husband wanted to stay in the thumb because we had plans for Sunday with the family. Tom suggested we start at The All American Diner for breakfast and go from there. Joey told us that it was not the All American Diner any more and it was now called the Wyldwood Grill. He told us the new owners completely remodeled the place. We decided that we would start there and head north from there. Stacey and I wanted to stop at the Petroglyphs on our way south. Tom suggested We stop in Caseville for the Cheeseburger festival. Once we had all agreed on the trip we decided to meet at 9am at the Wyldwood Grill on M-46. We didn't stay late because most of us had to work the next day. The burgers were good and the company was better, as it always is on bike night.
Saturday arrived quickly and we were ready to ride. We arrived at The Wyldwood and to my surprise we weren't the last to arrive. Bob and Stacey had run into some traffic and were running a little late. They had texted us not to wait on breakfast and they would be here soon. The rest of our group were already inside and at a table. We joined them and ordered our food. The food arrived quickly and was amazing. Bob and Stacey arrived shortly after our food did. Their food came out even faster than our's did. We all agreed that the new owners had done things right and that this would be our breakfast meeting place. Once we paid the bill we were ready to ride.
We headed out East on M-46 to stop at Scott's Quick Stop for fuel. From Scott's we headed East to Germania Rd where we turned left heading north. The Sanilac Petroglyphs Historic State Park was fairly quiet this time in the morning. We walked the trail and viewed the carvings/artwork. The landscape was beautiful, offering an amazing backdrop for pictures. One of the other people there was kind enough to take a picture of our entire group. Once we were back to the bikes it was time to head to Caseville for the Cheeseburger festival. I was a little worried for Stacey because of how busy it was going to be.
We took a lot of back roads up to Caseville. I was glad Tom was directing us because, even though I grew up in the thumb, there were times when I had no clue where we were. When we got close to Caseville I knew because of how slow traffic was going. It took much longer than normal to get into the heart of Caseville and parking was crazy. As we were circling around for the second time I looked to see how Stacey was doing. She was looking a little frazzled but was doing fine. Tom found a spot where only one vehicle would be in the middle of our group. As we pulled in I heard Stacey squawk. When I looked back she was fine. I went straight over to her to find out what had happened. Stacey explained that the bike had slipped on some gravel but she managed to recover. I told her that was how we all know she is doing great.
We walked down the main strip of Caseville, people watching as we walked. I find it entertaining the looks people make in our direction. Being a motorcycle rider always causes these looks. We are just people like everyone else but that doesn't change the fact that we get looks. There was entertainment in the park and people everywhere. We stopped and watched the band from the road for a few minutes, then continued on to the nearest burger stand. After seeing the line we decided to just hit the bar instead. We played a couple games of pool and ate some lunch before we headed back out into the heat and crowd of people. We walked back to the bikes and headed out of town.
The trip East on M-25 was quieter than the trip West. We headed towards Gridstone City to visit another of our favorite stops before heading back towards home. Along the way there was deer in the fields and water on our left. The boats were out and people were enjoying the warm weather out on Lake Huron. When we got to Grindstone City we discovered our favorite waitress was working. She gave the guys a hard time and they harassed her. It was great. We relaxed and told jokes and just enjoyed the patio.
Our trip back to Kingston was uneventful. I took some pictures of everyone in our group. Stacey was even making faces at me in some of them. I could tell that she was much more comfortable on her Sportster these days. When we got back to Kingston I showed Stacey, Cindy and Linda the pictures and Stacey had me send a couple of them to her. Linda only wanted one because she didn't like the way she looked in most. Cindy wanted all the pictures. I sent out the pictures while everyone chatted. After a couple games of pool I was ready to call it a night.
